STEAM Expo Seeking Volunteer Judges

The Santa Cruz County STEAM Expo is seeking volunteer judges to assist with evaluating students’ projects.

Taking place March 9, 2024, at the Santa Cruz County Fairgrounds, the STEAM Expo provides competitive and non-competitive project showcase opportunities to TK-12 students from across Santa Cruz County, including the traditional Science Fair format. The event is hosted by the Santa Cruz County Office of Education, and top award winners go on to represent Santa Cruz County at state and international competitions.

The minimum requirements to be a judge are an interest in science or engineering, a basic understanding of the scientific process, and a desire to encourage students on their path towards a positive science identity. Professionals in STEAM fields, as well as undergraduate and graduate students in scientific fields, are especially welcome to join.

Judging takes place on March 9, 2024, at the Santa Cruz County Fairgrounds, and the time commitment is typically 3-4 hours. Breakfast, lunch and training will be provided.

To register as a judge, please go to https://ca-scc.zfairs.com and create an account as a judge to select your preferred content areas. Those interested who have questions about the process can contact Heather Wygant, Science Coordinator at the Santa Cruz County Office of Education, at hwygant@santacruzcoe.org.

Additional volunteer opportunities are available for those uninterested in judging. Please see the STEAM Expo volunteer page for details.
