Machine learning (ML) is a practice in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) that provides systems the ability to automatically learn and improve from experience without being explicitly programmed. Cheap and available computing power along with volumes of data has enabled this field to grow over the past decade.

Some applications of ML include recommendation engines, spam filters, facial recognition, handwriting, character and speech recognition, language translation, autonomous vehicles, Alexa, Siri, and other digital assistants. In fact, ML is in many parts of our life and its impact will only increase over time.

The Santa Cruz Machine Learning Group caters to everyone from the curious to the professional. Our kickoff meeting will be hosted at ProductOps in downtown Santa Cruz on Cooper Street. Our events will have a limit of 50 participants but may increase if there is interest or for special events.

For this first meeting, we would like the ML community to get to know each other by playing some ice breaker games. Perhaps we can come up with an outline of a charter or a binding vision for this group.

We also plan to provide a general overview of the field of machine learning and solutions for which ML has been applied. I recognize there may be folks who are current experts and practitioners of ML so we’ll keep it brief. TO ATTEND:
