Amazon’s Smart Delivery Glasses Bring AI and Computer Vision to the Last Mile

Amazon is unveiling innovative smart delivery glasses designed to transform the experience of its Delivery Associates (DAs) by improving safety, navigation, and efficiency on every route. The wearable system combines AI-powered sensing, computer vision, and geospatial technology to deliver a hands-free experience that keeps drivers focused on their surroundings while maintaining seamless connectivity to delivery tasks.

When a driver parks at a delivery location, the glasses automatically activate, displaying package information, walking directions, and proof-of-delivery options directly in the user’s field of view. This eliminates the constant need to switch between a phone, packages, and the environment. The heads-up display guides drivers using Amazon’s geospatial mapping system, providing turn-by-turn navigation and alerts about obstacles or complex routes, such as navigating apartment buildings.

The glasses also feature a compact controller built into the delivery vest, containing operational controls, a swappable battery for all-day use, and an emergency button to contact services if needed. Supporting prescription and transitional lenses, the design emphasizes both comfort and safety.

Amazon collaborated with hundreds of DAs to optimize performance and usability. “I felt safer the whole time because the glasses have the info right in my field of view,” said Kaleb M, a DA with Maddox Logistics Corporation in Omaha, Nebraska, who tested the technology.

Future versions of the glasses will push innovation even further. Amazon plans to introduce real-time defect detection, alerting drivers if a package is dropped at the wrong address, as well as hazard recognition for low-light conditions or pets in delivery zones.

These smart glasses are part of Amazon’s broader investment in technology-driven safety initiatives and AI-powered tools that support the end-to-end delivery journey, ensuring a safer, more intuitive, and more efficient experience for drivers connecting millions of customers with their packages every day.
