First-of-its-kind event on August 16 invites residents to meet people in Santa Cruz, accelerate self-help goals, and make a lasting local impact through alternative, experiential learning.
SANTA CRUZ, Calif., July 31, 2025 – Liminal Space, the producer-owned cooperative renowned for immersive art and community activation, today announced the launch of Convergence Courses, an interactive “adult unschooling” platform designed to spark personal growth and collective ingenuity across Santa Cruz and the South Bay. The initiative debuts with Convergence Zone, a half-day summit on Saturday, August 16, from 2–6 p.m. at 11th Hour in downtown Santa Cruz.
Convergence Zone is a “spark notes” version of Convergence Courses, with multiple coaches leading simultaneous class sessions shortened to 30 minute bites. Testimonies
“Meeting people every week, getting creative, & solving problems hands-on is a life changing combination,” said Todd Medema, Los Gatos Mountains-based solarpunk author, Expedition RPG card game creator, and product director.
“This gives a stage to the future and the microphone to the forgotten,” noted Justin Cummings, former Santa Cruz mayor and current county supervisor.
“Convergence Courses are a breath of fresh air, they've created a platform for the conversations of the future,” remarked Brian Upton, Editor-In-Chief at Santa Cruz Vibes Magazine
“These experiences activate the community, activate spaces, and make great things possible,” added Marla Novo, Deputy Director at Santa Cruz Museum of Art & History.
Convergence Courses invert traditional instruction – instead of lectures, coaches supply frameworks, open-ended questions, and a supportive container while learners teach one another, create real-world projects, and hold each other accountable. Sessions rotate through inspiring venues and natural sites around Santa Cruz, with follow-up virtual cohort calls to maintain momentum. The model emphasizes forming deep relationships, interactive adult learning, and community-driven skill-building.
