DART and Vets to Drones Create New Career Pathways for Veterans
The partnership will connect veterans with training, certifications, mentorship and jobs in advanced air mobility.
The Monterey Bay region’s growing aviation and robotics sector is opening new doors for military veterans.
Monterey Bay Drone, Aviation and Robotics Technology (DART) has announced a strategic partnership with Vets to Drones to help veterans transition into careers in drone operations, autonomous systems and advanced air mobility.
The partnership combines DART’s regional workforce network with Vets to Drones’ specialized training programs. Veterans will gain access to drone pilot certification, advanced technology training, scholarships, mentorship and direct connections to employers.
“This partnership with Vets to Drones exemplifies DART’s mission to build equitable access to quality jobs in emerging sectors,” said Josh Metz, Executive Director of DART. “Veterans bring discipline, leadership and technical aptitude to the workforce.”
The collaboration arrives as employers in aerospace, robotics and autonomous technology look for more qualified operators and technicians. While veterans often possess valuable technical and leadership experience, they can still face challenges finding civilian positions that fully match their skills.
Vets to Drones was created to close that gap by helping veterans translate their military experience into practical qualifications for the commercial drone industry.
“Veterans deserve opportunities that match their skills and work ethic,” said Chris Lewis, founder of Vets to Drones. “Partnering with DART gives us the resources to scale our training programs and connect more veterans with employers actively hiring in the drone and autonomous technology space.”
Under the agreement, the organizations will work together on workforce training, employer engagement, educational resources and program evaluation. They also plan to develop additional training modules, expand into new regions and build relationships with companies actively recruiting veterans.
The partnership strengthens DART’s broader effort to connect industry, education, government and community organizations throughout California’s Central Coast. By bringing veteran-focused training into that network, DART is helping local workers participate in an industry expected to generate thousands of new jobs over the coming years.
