What is success for entrepreneurs? A Santa Cruz based independent production company created an inspiring documentary series that chronicles the entrepreneurial journey of several West Coast businesses. Available on Amazon Prime and consisting of six episodes of about 30min each, the series features a professional yet personal connection to individuals and finding their definition of success. From an award wining hair salon that went digital to a burger joint going back to the basics, the series defines the people behind the businesses.

Focusing predominantly on small to mid-size businesses, a diverse group of entrepreneurs reveal how their dreams became reality through their passion, support of friends and family, and most importantly finding fulfillment in their work. Throughout the interviews the entrepreneurs revealed that they were “doing something they loved to do, believing it was important and the money came through that.” The same can be said for the production of the series on a self-funded budget of only $500 by brothers Forrest Hoffman and Remington Hoffman, and childhood friend Cody Love.

Through professional cinematography and editing the series seamlessly links together the narrative of each entrepreneurial venture while providing insight on the emotional journey of business. By interviewing the the key figures of each venture and contrasting their perspective with those of loved one’s, the documentary demystifies the personal story of entrepreneurship.

According to Ingalls, Forrest Hoffman came up with the idea for “Talkin’ Success” after talking to a mentor, also a real estate agent, about investing and business. Hoffman also took advice from his dad, who owns Edward & Sons Antiques in Soquel. His dad told Forrest and his brother Remington Hoffman that “whatever we wanted to do with our lives, we should talk to the three most successful people in the field and ask them for advice.” Hoffman took this advice a step further by creating a series around the idea.

By enlivening entrepreneurial success stories through the medium of documentary film, the original series communicates the value of entrepreneurship as finding success through personal fulfillment and happiness. Especially in a place like Santa Cruz where lifestyle and balance are natural benefits of the area, the journey of entrepreneurship, from turning ideas and passions into businesses is at the core of our approach to business.
