Westly Prize Now Accepting Applications for 2027
The Westly Prize is calling on California's young social innovators to apply for a share of $145,000 in unrestricted funding.
Applications for the 2027 Westly Prize are officially open. The award is aimed at young social entrepreneurs living or studying in California who are building solutions to meaningful social challenges.
The Westly Prize offers $145,000 in unrestricted funding, including three $40,000 Grand Prizes, to help young innovators push their ideas and impact further. Applicants are asked to share what they're building, why it matters, and where they plan to take it next.
Past Santa Cruz winners include Wonderfil, a UC Santa Cruz-based startup and Santa Cruz Works Accelerates graduate building autonomous refill stations for everyday products like soap, shampoo, and laundry detergent. Wonderfil won a $40,000 Westly Prize in 2023 after piloting its stations on the UC Santa Cruz and UC Berkeley campuses, showing strong usage data and healthy unit economics to the judging panel.
