Women in Business Lunch
Topic: Pivoting Business Model in Face of Change
Change is inevitable—but transformation is a choice. In this candid and empowering Women in Business Lunch session, Morgan Lukina shares her journey of navigating the challenges and opportunities that come with pivoting a business model during times of uncertainty.
Through honest reflection and real-world experience, Morgan will explore the moment she knew her business needed a shift, the steps she took to reimagine her direction, and how she balanced risk with stability.
Speaker: Morgan Lukina, Managing Broker at David Lyng Real Estate
Morgan joined her family’s company in 2010 and is the Managing Broker and CEO of David Lyng Real Estate. Outside of David Lyng Real Estate, she served on the Board of Directors for the Santa Cruz County Association of Realtors (SCCAR) from 2012 to 2021 and served as the President of the Association in 2020. She also served on the Events and Planning Committee, the Local Candidate Recommendation Committee (LCRC), and as Treasurer for 3 years. Morgan was selected as the 2017 REALTOR of the Year by SCCAR for her contributions to the Association. Additionally, Morgan served as a State Director with the California Association of REALTORS (CAR) from 2016 to 2021 and enjoyed being involved with the industry at a higher level and understanding legislative and federal issues impacting the real estate industry.
Prior to joining David Lyng Real Estate, Morgan graduated from UC Berkeley with a BS in Business Administration from the Haas School of Business and worked in commercial real estate at Prudential Mortgage Capital Company and Prudential Real Estate Investors. She also spent time working as an asset manager and assisted in the overseeing, leasing, and operations of 32 commercial properties on the West Coast.
Morgan served on the Board of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Santa Cruz County from 2018 - 2020 and has also enjoyed being involved with the Santa Cruz Chapter of United Way. She lives in Santa Cruz with her husband, Greg Lukina, who is also a licensed Realtor, and together they have two sons.
During our event, we will also be supporting United Way of Santa Cruz's Stuff the Bus Campaign - attendees are encouraged to bring needed school supplies, make a monetary donation or bring a gift card. Click here for the list of supplies. Stuff the Bus – an initiative that collects new backpacks and schools supplies for Santa Cruz County students currently experiencing homelessness and other financial hardships. This is a great family-encouraged volunteer event where the community helps to ensure all students start the first day of school with the supplies they need to succeed. The school bus then delivers the backpacks to the COE and they implement the distribution of the backpacks to families in need. This year's Stuff The Bus aims to fill over 2,500 backpacks with new school supplies for each student in time for the upcoming school year!

“When Human-Centered AI Encountered Digital Humanities: A Dialogue between Magy Seif El-Nasr and Minghui Hu
May 20 @ 12:00 pm | Humanities 1, Room 210
The UCSC Humanities Institute Research cluster, Humanities in the Age of AI, presents “When Human-Centered AI Encountered Digital Humanities: A Dialogue between Magy Seif El-Nasr and Minghui Hu.”
What happens when the ethical and interpretive frameworks of the humanities meet the algorithmic and interactive architectures of artificial intelligence? This dialogue brings together two leading voices from distinct yet converging fields: Magy Seif El-Nasr, a pioneer in human-centered AI, game analytics, and interactive narrative design, and Minghui Hu, a historian and digital humanist, explores the cultural, religious, and intellectual history of China through computational and interpretive lenses.
Together, they will explore shared concerns—from narrative design and agency to ethical modeling and epistemological boundaries—charting new possibilities at the intersection of technology and the humanities. This conversation is not only a meeting of disciplines, but a reimagining of the collaborative future of AI and humanistic inquiry.

Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina “Missa Papae Marcelli”
The piece transcends time and offers enduring solace for modern ears. The Chorale presents the mass in an innovative format by interspersing its parts (Kyrie, Gloria, etc.) with works by modern composers (Arvo Pärt, Kirke Mechem, Randall Thompson, Charles V. Stanford)–our director thinks Palestrina would approve!
