Free EV Fleet Guidance Now Available for Santa Cruz County Small Businesses

PG&E’s EV Advisory Services program helps businesses explore medium- and heavy-duty fleet electrification at no cost.

For small businesses thinking about electric vehicles, the hardest part is often not deciding whether EVs are the future. It is figuring out where to start.

That is exactly where PG&E’s EV Advisory Services program comes in.

Through a partnership with Silicon Valley Clean Cities Coalition, PG&E is offering free, no-obligation advisory support to help small businesses transition medium- and heavy-duty fleets to electric vehicles. The program is open to eligible businesses in Santa Cruz, Monterey, and San Benito Counties, with a focus on small businesses with fewer than 500 employees.

A webinar hosted by the Santa Cruz County Chamber of Commerce will introduce the program on Tuesday, June 2, from 10:00am to 11:00am.

What the Program Offers

The EV Advisory Services program is designed to meet businesses wherever they are in the electrification process.

For businesses just getting started, the program can help with EV basics, equipment selection, custom electrification planning, and total cost of ownership assessments.

For businesses already planning a transition, advisors can support site planning, review current electrical capacity, identify bridge solutions if capacity is constrained, and help navigate utility infrastructure options and service applications.

For businesses already operating electric vehicles, the program can offer guidance on charging patterns, load optimization, EV charging rates, and future fleet expansion.

In short: this is a free way for businesses to get expert help before making major infrastructure or vehicle decisions.

Who Is Eligible?

Basic eligibility includes businesses that are PG&E non-residential electric customers, operate at least one medium- or heavy-duty vehicle, and agree to the program terms and conditions.

Full program eligibility may be available for organizations located in underserved communities and belonging to one of the following sectors:

  • Schools

  • Transit agencies

  • Municipalities

  • Small businesses with fewer than 500 employees

Applications for the program are open until December 2026.

Why This Matters

Fleet electrification can be a major opportunity for small businesses, but it can also be complicated. Vehicles, chargers, utility infrastructure, electrical capacity, permitting, rates, and long-term operating costs all need to line up.

For Santa Cruz County businesses, this program offers a way to start that process with expert guidance instead of guesswork.
