Employers Wanted: Hire a Local Intern and Get Reimbursed Up to $10K
Santa Cruz Works is now accepting applications from local employers who want to join Cohort 2 of the AHSC Internship Opportunity Program (IOP). If your business is looking for fresh talent and new ideas, and you want to invest in the next generation of Santa Cruz County's workforce, this is your chance. Best of all, we reimburse you up to $10,000 to pay the intern!
Funded by the City of Santa Cruz through the Affordable Housing and Sustainable Communities (AHSC) grant, the program is led by Santa Cruz Works and Cabrillo College. It connects local employers with young adults from underserved Santa Cruz County neighborhoods for paid, approximately six-month internships.
What's in it for employers
In Cohort 1, Santa Cruz Works matched interns with ten local businesses, and each participating company was reimbursed up to $10,000 to cover their intern's pay. Employers reported stronger productivity and fresh ideas, while interns gained hands-on experience, mentorship, and industry credentials close to home.
What's new in Cohort 2
Cabrillo College has joined Santa Cruz Works as a partner, widening the pipeline of local talent available to participating businesses. Digital NEST, which led outreach and candidate screening for Cohort 1, is no longer leading outreach for Cohort 2 but will continue to share internship opportunities with its youth.
