Santa Cruz AINative Studio: Built for Builders, From the Ground Up
Left to right: Karsten, Toby
There is a startup in town that has been quietly building AI infrastructure since September 2025 — no venture money, no press tour, just a small team shipping fast as AINative Studio.
AINative makes it easier to build production-grade AI applications. Their platform gives developers and vibe coders the memory, orchestration, and deployment primitives that most AI projects need but spend months cobbling together: a persistent vector database called ZeroDB, a front-end set of React components called AI Kit, a multi-agent coordination layer called Agent Cloud, and — most recently — an Intent-Casting Marketplace that lets AI agents source vendors, talent, and services autonomously using the Beckn open commerce protocol.
Mentoring as a service – a showcase customer story
One of AINative's early projects is Winning Careers — an AI-powered career coaching platform built on AINative infrastructure. The platform uses autonomous agents to guide recent college graduates to connect with experts for tailored coaching as they start their careers
It is a clean example of what the AINative team calls "tools for builders" — custom AI applications that do one thing well and do it reliably. Winning Careers did not need to manage model infrastructure, build a vector database from scratch, or figure out agent orchestration. They got all of that from AINative and focused on what they knew best: the career coaching product itself.
Bootstrapped, Then Funded — On Their Own Terms
AINative has been self-funded since day one. Founder and CEO Toby Morning and Head of Developer Relations Karsten Wade work with a team of agents led by agentic CTO Cody Jackson to builtdthe platform to production with no outside capital — a rarity in a space where most AI infrastructure companies raise first and ship later.
That changes now. AINative is entering its first fundraising phase, and the deal room is open for investors who want to get in at the ground floor of AI-native infrastructure. Details are at ainative.studio/about and the investor deal room is at ainative.studio/dealroom. Or you can ask your AI agent instead, "Go to this dealroom and bring back the investor packet."
Who They Are Building For
One thing that sets AINative apart is who they are explicitly building for: everyone from senior engineers running production workloads to newer vibe coders who are learning to build with AI for the first time.
Karsten Wade, whose title includes "Head of Vibe Coding," puts it directly, "The platform is designed to meet experienced developers where they are while remaining approachable enough for people who are just finding their footing with AI-native tools."
That range — senior to newcomer, production to prototype — is not common in developer infrastructure. Most platforms pick a lane. AINative is betting they do not have to.
