Why Purcell?

Purcell is a company that provides sustainable and eco-friendly packaging solutions to businesses. Their mission is to reduce the negative impact of packaging on the environment by providing biodegradable and compostable packaging options that are made from renewable materials and can be easily disposed of in an environmentally friendly way. They aim to promote sustainable practices in the business world and help their clients reduce their carbon footprint while maintaining high-quality packaging standards.

Bye Bye Plastic

Plastic packaging is harmful to the planet for several reasons:

  1. Non-biodegradable: Plastic is made from petroleum, a non-renewable resource, and does not biodegrade easily. It can take hundreds of years for plastic to decompose, and when it does, it breaks down into smaller pieces called microplastics that can persist in the environment indefinitely.

  2. Pollution: Plastic waste is a major contributor to pollution. It can end up in our oceans, waterways, and landfills, where it can harm wildlife and ecosystems. The plastic waste that ends up in the oceans can also break down into microplastics, which can be ingested by marine life, potentially harming them and entering the food chain.

  3. Energy consumption: Producing plastic packaging requires a lot of energy, which contributes to greenhouse gas emissions and climate change.

  4. Recycling challenges: While recycling can help reduce the environmental impact of plastic packaging, the process is often difficult and expensive. Many plastics are not easily recyclable, and even when they are, the recycling process can be energy-intensive and create its own environmental impacts.

Overall, plastic packaging has a significant negative impact on the environment and contributes to many of the most pressing environmental issues we face today.

The Purcell Story

David and Russell (two of 5 brothers) started Purcell after realizing the answer to reducing household trash relies heavily on the elimination of excessive food packaging. Food packaging comprises ~75% of American household waste, the largest single component in landfills. Food packaging relies heavily on plastic which is causing worrisome pollution. Purcell is dedicated to bringing bulk food from niche to mass-market to solve the problem of excessive packaging.
