Vibe Coding Webinar Recap

Did you miss our vibe coding webinar last week with Ian McHenry and Craig Vachon? Check out the recording above!

What is vibe coding?

Vibe coding is an emerging software development practice that uses artificial intelligence (AI) to generate functional code from natural language prompts. The term, coined by AI researcher Andrej Karpathy in early 2025, describes a workflow where the primary role of the developer shifts from writing code line-by-line to guiding an AI assistant to generate, refine, and debug an application through a more conversational process.

Key aspects of vibe coding include:

  • Natural language prompts: Instead of writing code in a specific programming language, you describe what you want the application to do in plain English.

  • AI-generated code: A large language model (LLM) interprets your request and produces the code.

  • Iterative refinement: You run the generated code and provide feedback to the AI. If the code isn't quite right or has an error, you give new instructions to refine it.

  • Focus on outcomes: The developer focuses on the desired functionality and user experience, while the AI handles the technical implementation.

  • Accessibility: This approach makes app development more accessible, particularly for those with limited programming experience, and also helps experienced developers work faster by automating tedious tasks and boilerplate code

Vibe coding is a big deal because it fundamentally shifts the role of a developer from writing code line-by-line to a more strategic, conversational process. It dramatically democratizes software creation, allowing people with limited coding experience to build applications. For seasoned professionals, it acts as a massive productivity booster, automating boilerplate tasks and freeing them to focus on complex problem-solving and architectural design. By prioritizing clear communication over syntax, vibe coding elevates skills like prompt engineering and systems thinking, reshaping the future of software engineering and promising a new era of rapid, accessible development. During the webinar, Ian crowd sources ideas and shows how vibe coding can turn it into a real tool in less than an hour.
