Fitafter50: David Schutz Builds an AI Coach for Healthy Aging

After watching dementia reshape his father's life, David Schutz built Fitafter50 , an AI-enabled platform delivering personalized, bite-sized fitness and wellness guidance for people over 50. He will present at SCWorks New Tech on November 5.

David Schutz didn't set out to build a health company. He spent his career in sales and entrepreneurship, much of it consulting in the life sciences industry. Then his father developed dementia.

Watching that decline up close shifted David's focus from treatment to prevention. The question became: what can people do now, in their 50s, 60s, and beyond, to stay strong, mentally sharp, and independent longer?

His answer is Fitafter50.

From WordPress Site to AI Platform

Fit After 50 started as a WordPress website. David is now rebuilding it as an AI-enabled platform orchestrating 16 different AI systems, each handling a piece of the personalization puzzle. The goal isn't more information. It's the right information, at the right moment, for the perfect fit

The Methodology: Meet People Where They Are

David's framework is built on the four quadrants of knowledge, gauging what each user knows, what they don't, and what they don't yet realize they need. Someone who has never lifted a weight gets a very different starting point than a lifelong runner managing new aches.

Borrowing from the Atomic Habits playbook, the platform favors small, incremental wins over a firehose of protocols. On the site, that philosophy becomes a four-step path: read a guide on what guidelines advise and where that advice stops, check your own week against those guidelines, put one small step into action  with clear instructions on how to start and when it counts as done, then make it yours, with members getting a daily step that adapts to their goals and limits.

Transparency is baked in. Every suggestion comes with a short reason, and when the platform relies on a health claim it names the source and rates the strength of the evidence. Guidance draws on federal physical activity guidelines and the World Health Organization.

What's on the Platform

The scope goes well beyond workouts. Fitafter50 frames healthy aging as strength, balance, food, sleep, community, connection, and a reason to get up each day. , goal trackers monitor an increase in strength, movement, balance, nutrition, mental acuity, and more. . Topics in development include GLP-1 lifestyle support, hormonal health, menopause and midlife wellness, and chronic condition support.

Every visitor gets a free downloadable Scorecard, plus access to Fitafter50’s library, which includes::

  • Tools and self-checks — a weekly activity check, walking planner, 30-second chair stand, 4-stage balance check, CDC fall-risk checklist, home safety checklist, protein calculator, and two-week sleep diary.

  • Minute Tips — one-minute nudges, from rows without a gym to why gardening counts.

  • Guides — plain-language primers on exercise volume, strength, balance, walking, and protein after 50.

The Programs

The flagship program is Steady Start, a gentle four-week ramp that layers in a little walking, strength, balance, and healthy food choices each week, then helps users look back and choose what comes next. Week one starts small, week two builds rhythm, week three adds a longer walk and a sleep step, and week four is a look back and look ahead. Users can skip, swap, repeat a week, or leave any time, and longer walking and balance programs from the original Fit After 50 library will return once that material is restored and reviewed.

The Business Model

The library stays free. Membership, launching first as a Founding Member, unlocks personalization: a platform that remembers your goals and limits, picks one step a day, plans your week, and lets you pause, repeat, and come back with no streaks and no guilt.

Pricing will be $10 per month or $99.95 per year, cancel anytime. David's long-term target is at least 10 million members, and he's exploring channels that reach large over-50 populations, including potential partnerships with large-scale organizations that aim to keep health and wellness at the focus of every employee. Almost There

At the time of our conversation, David was roughly a week from completing his MVP. By November 5, New Tech attendees should get an early look at the platform in action.
