Idea Fab Labs X Santa Cruz Hardware Meetup: Get a Special Look into the Maker Space

On Thursday, April 30, the Santa Cruz Hardware Meetup (SCHM) will gather at Idea Fab Labs (IFL) for their April meetup, Idea Fab Labs will be opening up to SCHM from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at IFL’s Santa Cruz location on Mission Street, the event offers a behind-the-scenes look at one of the region’s most dynamic maker spaces.

The highlight of the evening is a shop tour and talk led by IFL founder Jordan Layman, who will share the story behind IFL and its role in supporting innovators across disciplines. From rapid prototyping tools to advanced fabrication equipment, attendees will get a firsthand look at the resources that power local product development and creative experimentation.

Idea Fab Labs is known as a member-driven creation zone, where engineers, artists, and entrepreneurs come together to build, learn, and collaborate. With access to high-tech tools, design software, and a wide range of classes, IFL has become a hub for turning ideas into tangible outcomes. The space also supports contract fabrication, bridging the gap between concept and production for startups and established businesses alike.

SCHM continues its mission of connecting Santa Cruz’s hardware community by bringing together professionals from mechanical and electrical engineering to industrial design and manufacturing. The meetup provides a space to share challenges, exchange ideas, and showcase works in progress. Attendees are encouraged to bring demos or presentations, creating an interactive environment driven by curiosity and collaboration.

And, true to SCHM tradition, the evening will include beer and pizza. For anyone interested in the future of hardware development or looking to plug into a vibrant local network, this event offers an open door into Santa Cruz’s thriving maker ecosystem.
