Solar Jobs Powering the Central Coast: A Call to Action
By Corrina Hansen, CFO & Co-Founder, MYNT Systems
The U.S. needs the equivalent of 12 New York Cities’ worth of new electricity capacity by 2030, a 25% increase driven by AI, EVs, data centers, and building electrification.
Solar is the fastest, most scalable, and most cost-effective solution to meet that demand, and it’s already delivering results right here on the Central Coast.
Local Momentum
In April, Monterey County celebrated the installation of over 6,000 solar panels at two county sites, part of a clean energy initiative expected to save taxpayers millions while powering local government facilities. That’s the kind of leadership and infrastructure investment we need more of, and it’s creating jobs across the region.
California leads the nation in solar jobs, with more than 80,000+ statewide
The Santa Cruz–Monterey Bay region is home to dozens of solar companies, electricians, engineers, and contractors who rely on consistent policy to keep projects moving and businesses growing
Across the U.S., the solar industry added 18,000+ new jobs in 2023, and more are projected as demand surges
But now, Congress is considering rollbacks to the Inflation Reduction Act, the very policy that unlocked these kinds of projects and investments. If those credits are stripped, it’s not just solar deployment that will stall, local jobs, grid reliability, and taxpayer savings are at risk.
Take Action
