Powered by Climatize: Community-Funded EV Charging Comes to West Sacramento

A ribbon-cutting ceremony in West Sacramento recently marked a milestone in grassroots clean energy infrastructure, the completion of an EV charging station brought to life through crowdfunding, public-private partnership, and community belief in a greener future.

The project, developed by Mynt Systems and featured on the Powered by Climatize video series, was funded by 169 individual investors through the Climatize platform, collectively raising over $1 million. Combined with support from California energy programs, those funds were enough to turn an idea into operational charging infrastructure accessible to the local community.

Robert Hymes, Chief Development Officer at Mynt Systems, was among those on hand for the celebration, joined by Noemi Gallardo and representatives from partner organizations, policymakers, and investors. The event brought together the full ecosystem that made the project possible.

California's Energy Commission played a key role in shaping the policy environment for projects like this one, and the ribbon cutting served as an opportunity for policymakers to reflect on what collaboration between government, developers, and the public can achieve. Grants and incentives were central to making the economics work, underscoring how public funding can catalyze private investment in clean energy.

What makes this project stand out isn't just the charging stations themselves, it's the model. Rather than relying solely on large institutional investors or utility giants, Climatize enabled ordinary people to directly fund clean infrastructure in their region. The result is a site that the community didn't just benefit from, but actively built.

As EV adoption accelerates across California, projects like the AMPS charging station in West Sacramento offer a blueprint: local investment, strategic partnerships, and policy alignment can deliver real, tangible clean energy outcomes.
