Ross Blocher, Training Project Manager at Walt Disney Animation Studios, Joins 3DE Club Advisory Board

Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Ross Blocher, a Santa Cruz County–raised animation veteran who once memorized 3,200 digits of pi, joins 3DE Club’s Advisory Board to mentor Gen Alpha students at the intersection of creativity, technology, and storytelling.

Santa Cruz County, CA — 3D Entrepreneurs (3DE) Club is pleased to announce that animation professional Ross Blocher has joined the 3DE Club Advisory Board. Blocher works as a Training Project Manager at Walt Disney Animation Studios and is lending his expertise to 3DE Club in a personal capacity as a mentor and community advisor.

Ross's background makes his involvement especially meaningful for 3DE Club as he brings a career spanning animation, technical production, and professional training — the exact intersection of creativity and technology the storytelling initiative is built on. Having spent years at one of the world's leading animation studios, he offers students a firsthand view of how ideas become stories, and how storytellers, artists, and technologists collaborate to make them.

His connection to the community runs just as deep. A graduate of Monte Vista Christian School in Watsonville, Ross grew up in Santa Cruz County before pursuing animation and technology. He earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Woodbury University and built a career across compositing, technical direction, and digital workflows. Today he supports learning and professional development programs that help artists and technical teams keep sharpening their craft.

Ross has always been drawn to the meeting point of creativity, mathematics, and learning. Raised by teachers in Santa Cruz County, including his father, a mathematics teacher, he developed a lifelong curiosity about how people learn and solve hard problems—a curiosity that once led him to memorize 3,200 digits of pi.

It was that shared fascination with pi that first connected him with 3DE Club founder Bobby Roy, who had previously developed a memory system that helped elementary students recite up to 1,000 digits of pi during demonstrations at the San Francisco Exploratorium. Their shared passion for making complex concepts engaging sparked conversations with Ross that ultimately grew into this collaboration.

“Ross represents exactly the kind of mentor we want our students to learn from,” said Bobby Roy, Founder of 3DE Club. “He shows students that creativity and technology aren’t separate skills—they’re deeply connected. The same imagination that sparks a child’s interest in storytelling and animation can also inspire them to create innovative solutions to real-world problems.”
